On the 31st of July at 5.30pm, Jesse and Kit were involved in a car accident. On the way back to the mechanics, cruising along at 60km/h, a monkey leapt out into the middle of their lane at upper pierce. Jesse swerved to avoid the monkey, went down a slope and hit a tree head on. Full impact was on the passenger side of the van where Kit was seated. Jesse pulled an unconscious Kit out from the wreckage and stuffed a sock into his mouth to stop him from biting his tongue while convulsing. Kit was bleeding from the nose and not responding to anyone. An off duty cop happened to be driving by, called an ambulance for them and Kit was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in an ambulance unconscious within minutes.

His brain had been shaken in its skull and was swollen from the impact. His left cheekbone was crushed and his left hip dislocated badly. His left eyeball may sink in the future and his vision in his left eye is likely to be affected in the future if that happens. They had to drill a hole into his skull to monitor his brain pressure. For 8 days, it was touch and go.

Kit remained in a coma for almost 2 weeks and when he came to, drifted in and out of consciousness for about one week. After he came to, he was not able to control his aggressiveness, and couldn’t prevent his leg from shaking vigorously and slamming against the sides of the bed. To prevent him from hurting himself uncontrollably, he was sedated and put in restraints.

He is the only child of a secretary and his dad passed away from a sudden heart attack when he was 12. He will turn 26 on the 8th of October and would have been graduating at the end of this year with his degree in Marketing and Management if not for this accident.

He’s unable to walk at the moment as turns out that there’s more damage than expected to his hip area. He’s just undergone an operation on the 9th of September 2006, Saturday, where, unable to save the cartilage around his left hip bone, doctors had to fuse his hip together.

He’s still due for 1 more operation at least – for his smashed left cheekbone. If left unrepaired, his left eyeball will sink and he will suffer irreparable damage to his vision. We’re still a little unsure of the eyesight in his left eye as there may have been damage to the nerves. Hopefully the doctors will be able to ascertain that in the weeks to come.

For those who wish to pay him a visit, he’s in Mount Elizabeth Hospital now, 10th floor, room 1017. Try to speak calmly and slowly to him as he’s usually quite disorientated.

Occasionally talking to him is like talking to a normal Kit, but 50% of the time, he’s very disorientated and confused. He’s called his cousin Mum, told nurses to leave his nipples alone and on occasion punched several of his friends. He’s still yet to undergo therapy and already the medical bills are piling up.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have personal insurance and his mother is bearing the full financial burden. He may be covered by the vehicle’s 3rd party insurance, but from what we’ve heard, it will likely not be full coverage. Also, there are other costs such as therapy and medication to consider. He also has to be watched by a nurse at night as he’s suffering from psychosis, depression and insomnia. He forgets if he’s eaten and whether he’s been to the bathroom.

We looking to use this event to raise money for his mom, and ease what burden we can. All money collected will be properly accounted for. Medical bills at the moment have reached 5 figures and continue to escalate. We plead with you in typical Kit fashion, to come down to Handle Bar on the 30th of September and have a jug of beer for Kit. We’ll entertain you with magic, live music and even a bachelor and bachelorette auction off. In return, touch your hearts and help Kit in anyway you can. A little goes a long way.
